Thursday, May 17, 2007 Another big lag between posts – this time I was sick and then we’ve been super busy with the kids around here… I need to post more often, even if I am not knitting and spinning as much as I would like, I can at least write about it, right?
I haven’t been working on any of the projects I posted about last time, but I have a couple of new things on the go… first I finished another little shoulder wrap for my mum for mother’s day:
Handmaiden Shoulder Wrap kit in Rose Garden on 8 mm needles
I posted a pic in my last post of a silk bias shawl I had started, and mentioned I wanted to finish it it in time for a wedding I am going to at the end of May. Well, I hadn’t found a dress when I posted that… and earlier this week, I finally did and it doesn’t match. So, I went into my stash and surprise, surprise, I have another bias shawl kit in a colourway that matches perfectly. Observe:
Handmaiden Bias Shawl kit in Glacier on 6 mm needles I think I’m being entirely overambitious in thinking I can finish and block this in time. The wedding is on the 26th, and the finished shawl is supposed to be 75” long. Right now it’s 11”. And I have little knitting time. But, check out how well it matches the fabric of the dress:
perfect match! If I finish it, it will be perfect. But that’s a big if.
Despite the lack of knitting time I did get a couple of skeins of yarn from my LYS the other week. Not intentionally, of course, because let’s face it, I only needed some stitch markers. But once I saw this I had to have it:
Colinette Jitterbug in JayI think I’m on a turquoise kick? I have no idea what it will be yet, but it was too pretty to pass up. I also bought some more Rowan All Seasons Cotton because they had a clearance on the clearance items and it was only 25% of normal price!
In spinning news, I just got my first month’s installment from the fiber clubs I joined recently. Here’s the April fiber from the Spunky Fiber Club... it’s so pretty. I think I’m going to spin it into a 2 ply to make something for the bebe girl.
Strawberry Fields Corriedale woolAnd here’s the Hello Yarn May fiber, also gorgeous! I’m not sure about what to make from this one yet. Perhaps something for the Mr? Or the little guy. BFL is my favorite to spin though, so I was excited to see it was the first to be chosen.
Cricket BFL woolIn other spinning news, I hope to find some time to finish up a few new yarns I’ve had on the go. I have a few batts carded and some roving set to spin up, so I’m hoping within the next couple of weeks to get them together and listed on the site. I’m also thinking of a spring cleaning sale to clear out some of the current yarns… so stay tuned!
