Thursday, May 31, 2007 Well I finished the bias shawl, but I flubbed it up a bit, so I could wear it as more of a triangular shawl:
Handmaiden Bias Shawl kit in Glacier on 6 mm needlesOf course you’d think I’d have remembered to take a picture of me wearing it at the wedding with the dress it matches, but um, apparently my excitement over having finished it didn’t ensure it would be properly documented. So, here it is being modelled by my Euonymus. I will endeavor to get a real photo when someone is around to take one. Meh. It was a pleasure to knit, I love knitting with silk, and the Handmaiden colours never disappoint.
Now I think I’m going to go back to the Forest Canopy lace shawl I barely started… first though I’m going to rip back the set up rows I already knit, because I realized I started knitting from the center of the center pull ball (as I normally do) without realizing that silk won’t support itself like wool will, so if I knit from the center of the ball it will collapse and tangle and make my future shawl knitting life miserable. So, small amount of investment now for a big savings later. I’m also starting in on a few baby knits I have some yarn for. First, there is this Sea Baby set. SO CUTE. I’m winding the yarn for that one tonight. Then there are some things I have some Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino set aside for. I have the Simply Baby book and there are a few things I want to make for little O that I can’t wait to start.
Speaking of books, I also got a copy of Fitted Knits by Stefanie Japel (of Glampyre Knits). This book is fabulous! I love many of the patterns, and I think many of them will do nicely with my handspun. There is a great pattern for a mohair blend wrap top that I think I have stash yarn for… (in the #27, blues/teals shade) it’s actually sitting as a half done shawl I started a looong time ago and never really got into, it is a simple knit shawl and just wasn’t doing it for me, so I think I’m going to rip it and repurpose the yarn towards this fabulous top.
I also just got my second installment of fiber from the Spunky Club:
Nightshade – Coopworth roving from the Spunky EclecticSo far this is my favorite. I love the dark colours with pops of light. I’m trying to decide how I will spin it… I might spin just singles, or maybe ply it with some dark brown corriedale roving I have, or onto itself? Hmmm. I guess I’ll start with singles, see how that looks and go from there. I still haven’t spun either of my first two club rovings up, I want to have a big spinning day and do them all at once. I was sick again last week and then had family here the last few days, so just now am getting things back to the norm. Not that “the norm” includes much spinning of late, but hopefully soon.
This weekend little O and I are going on our first girls’ roadtrip to visit my family, leaving the boys at home. Should be fun (or at least adventurous) travelling alone with a three-month old. I think I may just get some knitting time in since there will be lots of eager baby-holders waiting in the wings. Hopefully I will have something to show for it next week when I return!
