Thursday, June 21, 2007 Over the last week I snuck in a bit of time to catch up on some of my fiber club spinning. It was the first time I’ve touched my wheel in months, I’ve missed it! I decided to start by spinning up my first two months of Spunky Club fibers. I decided to leave them both as singles, I’ve been into the singles lately.
So, this was the April fiber, a fun Corriedale roving called “Strawberry Fields:”
And here is the resulting yarn:
I split the roving lengthways into long strips, pre-drafted and parallel spun it (two strips together at a time, at the same tension) so that they would twist together and give the yarn pretty candy stripes. Here’s a closeup:
I’m very pleased with how it turned out, there’s about 60 yards and it’s a bulky weight, slightly thick n’ thin. My plan is to use it for a winter hat for baby O. Specifically, this one. The May Spunky Club installment was this lovely Coopworth roving, called “Nightshade:”
This one was interesting to spin… the dark dyes stained my fingers blue for a few hours afterwards, and the colours were lovely. Coopworth has a nice sheen to it that really complements the dark colourway. Here is the finished product:
This one is about a worsted weight, and 103 yards. Not sure of what it will end up being yet, I shall have to think on it. Closeup:
See what I mean about the shiny? I also spun up the first of my Hello Yarn fibers (also just singles! I couldn’t dilute the colour on that one either…), but I haven’t set the twist yet so no pics. I’ve started my second installment of HY roving too, so the next time I have a spinning post I’ll have those two lovelies to show off! Yay!
Since I spent any of my free time spinning I didn’t do much knitting this week, but I have been working on a little baby project that I can’t show just yet, but soon. I also found out about two new books I can’t wait to see: Itty Bitty Nursery by Susan B. Anderson, who also wrote Itty Bitty Hats (which I so love, and have made several hats from). She has some preview pictures and notes about some of the projects on her blog, and everything looks so sweet! I can’t wait to see it, although I guess I have to wait until September, when it’s due to be released. (Just in time for the Knitter’s Fair!) Also Interweave is coming out with a Best of Interweave Knits collection, which I’m sure will be fabulous. There is a preview on the Interweave site as well. That one isn’t out until October, but it looks worth the wait! I love being able to sneak peeks before the books are even in circulation.
That’s about all for now… I may have had another incident this week that involved having (yes, HAVING) to aquire a few more skeins of Cashlana, but I’m not saying for sure yet. Yet. Maybe next time I’ll have some knitterly progress to report too. Yay!
