Tuesday, July 31, 2007 What way to keep one’s non-knitting spirits up like starting something else, right? And so I got this pattern for an adorable baby capelet. It’s the Edwardian Carrying Cape from Oat Couture. And some yarn with which to knit it. It’s Fleece Artist Nova Sock Merino (machine washable!). It’s a fingering weight, but I’m going to double strand it to meet the DK requirements of the pattern. Here’s a close-up:
Fleece Artist Nova Socks ~ Superwash Merino, unknown colourwaysThey only had one skein of each colourway, but they complement each other nicely and look really pretty double-stranded. I already started a mini-swatch just to test the thickness and colours, and am pleased with how it looked. I’m only going to make the top portion (hood and small capelet) of the pattern, so these two skeins should be plenty. Pretty, huh? Or it will be!
I have been doing some knitting, but I can’t show anything for it since the two main items I’ve been working on are to be gifted. Let’s just say they are both for babies, and one is smaller than the other. The knitterly items, not the babies… although that would also be a true statement as one isn’t even born yet!
I also cast on for O’s Sea Baby sweater (barely):
The Sea Wool is just fabulous. It’s soft and pretty like all of the Fleece Artist yarns I’ve used, but it also has a really pretty sheen to it that the regular merino does not. I’m smitten. This is going to be a super cute set, if I finish it before she’s too big for it! This girl is massive. Vee also brought me a Tulip Sweater Kit she picked up for me, and her almost finished Tulip when she visited, it’s cuter in person than in photos… so I’m going to cast that on too, soon. Because what I need is more just started projects, right?
I have my Cricket BFL Hello Yarn Club fiber spun into a pretty, worsted weight singles yarn, but I haven’t washed/set the twist yet so I don’t have a photo. I also have the Thistle Merino about halfway spun, that one is going to be a chunky 2 ply. It’s killer soft! I also just got the July fiber from the Hello Yarn Club, it is sooo very pretty, I love the bright colours:
Lantern Festival Corriedale wool, 4 ozI’m thinking chunky 2-ply for that one.
I’ve also gotten two more offerings from the Spunky Club since my last post- the first:
Tulip BFL wool, 4 ozIt’s very red, not so pinkish as it appears in the picture, I haven’t decided yet if I want to spin it as singles and ply with a fine thread, or ply it on itself. Here is the second:
Celebration Shetland wool, 5 ozThis one I’m pretty sure I’m plying on itself. I love the look of it when so many colours are involved. I’m looking forward to spinning both of these – BFL is totally my favourite, and I haven’t spun Shetland yet so I’m excited about the prospect of trying something new.
Of course, then I started another little item, because lately I have been too tired at night by the time I can sit a few minutes and knit, to concentrate on anything at all, so I’ve started on a Noro Iro garter stitch scarf for M.
Noro Iro ~ 75% Wool, 25% Silk, Colour 47, 8mm needlesCompletely stolen from Jared at b r o o k l y n t w e e d- he has much, much lovelier pictures than I as to what the finished product will look like, but I happened to already have two skeins of the exact same colour of Iro in my stash, already destined for a man’s scarf, and when I saw how amazing it looked knit in simple garter, I decided to whip one up too. Beauteous!
Since I’m ‘fessing up on the startitis, I guess I can also come clean that I joined a THIRD fiber club – Abby’s Yarns offered a three month summer batts club, and I (as fast as my fingers could type) signed up since she has the most lovely looking batts… and I just got the first installment, and she sure doesn’t disappoint!
Superwash wool, silk & nylonThese will be a dream to spin… they are soft and fluffy as clouds. I can’t wait to get to all of this fibery goodness!
Now I just need a little bit of time to actually spin it all…
