No new knitterly news to report this time… the last couple of weeks have been ridiculous. We spent two Saturday nights in a row in the ER – one for each kid. Everything is fine with both, it just set us back as we were spending time tending to sick/injured kidlets and have gotten nothing else done – now I’m playing catch up on the house and just starting to get up to speed. So, no knitting. But, I do have some spinning pics to show.

I finally got around to setting the twist on my Cricket yarn. Cricket was the shiny BFL that was the May offering of the Hello Yarn Fiber Club. It used to look like this:

I wish I’d have taken a better picture.
What was I thinking?

I love spinning BFL. It’s my absolute favorite, so I was happy to find it as the first fiber club offering. Anyway, I decided to just spin a single to keep the colours as they are, and so I spun it worsted weight. It’s about the same weight as Manos pure wool.

I love how it turned out, shiny and soft. Here’s the glamour shot:

I haven’t yet decided whether to use it for a hat for Mr. woolens or for something for me… I was thinking it would make a good Calorimetry.

I also spun up the June club fiber, super squishy Merino wool, called Thistle. Here is the before:

Now it looks like this:

Thistle 2ply Merino ~ 166 yards chunky/bulky weight

I have to admit, I know many people love Merino, and I love it once it’s yarn. But I don’t enjoy spinning it that much because I find it’s a lot of work. Granted it feels amazing because it’s so soft and fluffy, but it’s fussier than a lot of other fibers I like to spin. But, that being said, I think this yarn might be what changes my mind about Merino. I think it’s one of my favorites I’ve spun. It’s buttah soft, squishy, and will knit up with a great hand, I can tell. Here’s the glamourshot:

I love it. I don’t know what it wants to be yet, but for now I’m going to keep it in my little mercury glass yarnbowl and pet it lovingly every now and then until it tells me.

I have a backlog of fiber club fiber. I have prepped the July HY fiber and started the July Spunky fiber, but I still have August for both clubs to spin, and my September HY fiber. (My September Spunky fiber isn’t here yet… soon!) Whew. I need to get cracking here.
