Thursday, January 03, 2008 Ah, the holidaze. So much happens so quickly, doesn’t it? I hope everyone had a lovely holiday season filled with much happy, good food, friends and family, and warm fuzzies. (Of the wooly variety and the more generally understood kind.) We had a grand old time over the break, our first Christmas with two little ones, so lots of fun with presents and the like. My little man got what he asked Santa for (“choco-lit, pumpkins and goodies”) and then some, and the baby made out like a bandit although she was content to play with the paper and ribbons. We had a house full of company, then a few quiet days just the four of us. Perfect.
My big present isn’t ordered yet, but the Mr. suggested before the holidays that perhaps I would like a second wheel for a Christmas/Birthday gift. Um… yes please! So after some deliberation and research, I think I am going to be ordering a Majacraft Rose. I love my Louet, but I have some fiber I haven’t touched because I want to spin it thin, thin, thin… and I can get pretty fine on my S75, but not as fine as I’d like sometimes. The prospect has me positively giddy, and now I have put even more of my fiber in the hording “to spin later” box, because I want to wait until I have the new wheel to tackle it.
So, I have a confession to make. I can’t seem to finish anything. It’s getting annoying, even to me. In the little bits of time I am sneaking in to knit or spin, I just procrastinate. Take for example, the handspun hat I started some time ago. I love the hat, however. I put it down and resumed knitting in the completely wrong place. So now it’s messed up and I don’t even know where I was to fix it. Note to self: write things down. Meh.
The hat I just can’t pick up again So now I’m torn about restarting or just trying to fix it, probably I will attempt the latter first, but I’ve been so annoyed by the whole issue I’ve just shoved it aside to languish. And speaking of languishing, I had started a Montego Bay scarf eons ago, in beautiful Sea Silk. But after starting in, and having it inadvertently frogged by an almost three-year-old in residence, I think I’ve decided I don’t want the yarn to be that scarf, so now it’s set aside too.
Then onto the spinning front – I have spun up a couple of skeins since I last posted, my Harvest Haze Lincoln fiber (before the holidays actually) and I have no idea what to make with it:
Unspun Harvest Haze roving ~ Lincoln wool, Spunky Eclectic Fiber Club, 4oz
All spun up, 91 yards of itchy and scratchynessand I’ve also spun my October Spunky fiber, Goblin Eyes, but it is currently drying, so pics next time. BUT. The Aspen Merino/Tencel? I have one bobbin full: and the other half still to spin.
Halfway done spinning, one bobbin to goAgain, I procrastinate. I have about a pound of other fiber prepped and ready to spin, and yet I can’t get this off of my bobbins. Why? I like spinning it, it’s beautiful, I’m just very unmotivated to follow things through lately, it seems. I think my new year’s resolution should be to FINISH THINGS.
And I’ll start by finishing these, also started over the holidays: Time to get down to business. Must. Be. Focused. Or something.
And because it was too cute for words, I took a picture of one of the little presents the baby got from her Auntie. She found a little farm playset that contained a furry alpaca, and thought baby O would love the fuzzies and I would love the fact that it was an alpaca.
Wee fuzzy alpaca frolicking amongst glittery Christmas treesShe was absolutely right on both counts. Cute, no?
