Thursday, November 08, 2007 Lots going on around the household lately and once again knitting has fallen to the wayside, but I have whipped up a FO out of the blue over the last week that I really enjoy. I used this yarn I dyed and spun some time ago:
Casual Friday BFLAnd decided to knit up a hat. Observe:
Yarn: my hand-dyed and handspun Casual Friday BFL
Pattern: 3am Cable Hat, from smariek knits
Needles: 4.5mm Addi Turbo 16” circulars, 4.5mm Brittany Birch DPNs
This hat is one of my favorite things I’ve knit, easily. I suppose I am biased since it’s also one of the few things I’ve knit from my own hand-dyed, handspun yarn. Hee. I have tended to sell, gift it to my knitterly friends, or trade with other artisans, or stash some. Time to start making things! Here’s a closeup of the cables:
I really like the pattern, it’s quick and easy, and the cables make it fun. Since I enjoyed it so much, I am working on a second hat, Cap Karma, also from the same designer, but I am going to use the decrease method as posted by Jared of brooklyntweed, because I really enjoy how his version of this hat continues the pattern through the crown while the original does not. More handspun for this one, my Hello Yarn Cricket yarn this time, so this:
Cricket BFL ~ 127 yards heavy worsted weightBecomes this:
Yarn: my handspun Cricket BFL
Pattern: Cap Karma, from smariek knits
Needles: 4.5mm Addi Turbo 16” circulars, 4.5mm Brittany Birch DPNsThis hat is promised to the mister. The first is a gift, but I’m pretty sure the recipient doesn’t read my knitblog so I should be safe to show the blogosphere. Heh.
I also have WAY too much fiber backup in the spinning queue. Here are the latest fiber club installments from Spunky and Hello Yarn clubs. I love them both so much I think I am going to cheat and skip to them. So wrong it’s right.
Spunky Club October fiber:
Goblin Eyes, 4oz RomneyI haven’t decided how to spin this one up yet. Originally I had thought two-ply but I have seen other’s spinning and a few people did singles, and both are so lovely I can’t decide. Thoughts, anyone? If I spin singles they can make yet another cabled hat… hmmm….
Hello Yarn October fiber:
Baked Alaska, 5oz RomneyI adore the colour scheme for this one. I was thinking of a 2ply and plying it with some natural brown Corriedale roving I have stashed. That way I’d get maximum yardage and also perhaps soften the Romney a tad bit. Ever so pretty.
I am going to really try to post more often. I do really have knitterly things to discuss, even when I’m not knitting. For instance, ravelry. I have been on ravelry (a LOT) since July and haven’t yet wrote about it. It’s a great way for me to keep reading and planning knitting projects even when I can’t actually knit. Since I am spending a lot of time nursing, I can browse through ravelry then! So lovely. Anywho, hopefully I can get it together and blog more often!
