Thursday, March 06, 2008 Well the yarn arrived the other day for the DIC KAL, and I am really leaning towards the Central Park Hoodie, except attempting to rework the cables like Lisa Kay did. Wow. She used a more complex Viking cable and was even kind enough to write out the alterations to the pattern. I love the result, I think it’s even more beautiful than the original, but I’m also rather intimidated by how complex it looks. Let’s just say math? Is not my strong point. So we’ll see if I am feeling adventurous here. I’m going to use the Cocoa Kiss colorway for my CPH, I’ve decided. Here’s the yarn:
Dream in Color Classy ~ Cocoa KissBut for now, I’m not casting on because I have a couple of other little projects on the go that come first. Easter is just around the corner and I just found a sweet little dress for the baby to wear. (Do I have to stop calling her “the baby” now that she just turned a year old?) The weather is always too cool here at Easter for short sleeves, but the dress options seem to always be sleeveless so I’m going to knit up a little sweater for her to wear with her ensemble. Fortunately I had some Baby Cashmerino in stash that matches perfectly.
Pattern: Lace Edge Cardigan
Book: Simply Baby by Debbie Bliss
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in Dusky Pink (006)Now I just need to hurry up and knit it. I’m also working on a Bunny tails hat for her to wear for the spring. I just cast on last night but that’s quick knitting so won’t take long. It’s almost the same color as the sweater. Once I’m done I’ll add some bows on the ears and it’ll be set. I’m thinking maybe if I just keep going on the pretty pink springtime knitting, some springtime weather might head our way. Seriously. We just got dumped on another 12 cm yesterday. I don’t remember having this much snow for this long for years! Icky.
I also have a secret project I’m going to be casting on for, using DIC Classy in Petal Showers.
Dream In Color Classy ~ Petal ShowersThis one I have to pick up the needles for. But I have a few things to keep me busy in the meantime. THEN it’s on to the sweater. Good thing the KAL is until June, I’m going to need the time.
I also have some exciting news on the spinning front. I just registered for the Certificate in Handspinning from the OHS and Haliburton School of the Arts (Fleming College). It’s a six-year program, one week a year in the summer at the college and the rest assignments mailed in. I’m really excited by the prospect of spending a week in cottage country playing with wool with other fiber fiends. I first heard of the program a few years ago, and am so happy to have the opportunity to go.
Speaking of going, we are also going on a holiday in a few weeks! With NO kids. This is a big deal, we haven’t been anywhere for like four years now… and we’re going to Mexico! Woot! We just booked a five day trip so it will be long enough to enjoy some sun and much needed relax time, but not too long away from the kids. I can’t wait! Now I just need to pick which knitting projects to take along (I’m thinking Sea Silk Forest Canopy that has been on hold), oh. And find a bathing suit. (Boo.) Ah well, good with the bad, right?
