Well Easter was fun if somewhat snowy and cold (um, hello? it’s springtime!). Hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday and that things are thawing out if you are still immersed in snow as we are.

I had to give up on the Easter Cardi for the timeframe – once the whole family got the flu it became apparent that my master plan of knitting fast & furiously to get it done was not going to happen. Sigh. Ah well, it will be a happy springtime cardi instead. But, I did manage to finish one little FO in time:

Bunny Tails hat
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK
Pattern: Bunny Tails hat from Itty Bitty Hats by Susan B. Anderson
Needles: 4.5mm Lantern Moon 16” circulars, 4.5mm Brittany Birch DPNs

Here’s an arial view:

And a closeup of the ears:

Bunny Tails hat ~ ears closeup

This hat is SO adorable. This is actually the second I’ve made. The first I made for a gift, and this one is for our own hunny bunny. I made it the largest size (1-2 years) so that it should last a while. I have made several hats from the book and find the sizing (plus the stretch of the knitted fabric) to be quite forgiving, and the hats last a while longer than the size range mentioned. My son is still wearing his hat I knit him for last winter and he is three, and has a good sized noggin to boot.

The pattern is excellent – it’s a super quick knit, and fun, especially once you get to the ears. I really love this book, it’s laid out nicely, the instructions are very detailed, and all of the patterns are very sweet. I wish I had had it before I was pregnant with both kids so I could have knit them more from it. Highly recommend it if you haven’t checked it out. Susan also has a second book, Itty Bitty Nursery, which I also have and have a few things queued to knit up. I love her designs. If you are on ravelry you can peek at some of them here.

I’m undecided on how I feel about the DB Cashmerino. It is kind of splitty, in my experience, but is so soft and nice to knit with because of it. I think my final opinion is that the softness and final product outweigh the splittiness, but I still find it a little annoying during the process. I have a lot of Baby Cashmerino to work with so I guess I’d better learn to deal.

In other news, mr. woolens and I are heading out at some unholy hour this morning for our first vacation ALONE in four years! Yay! We booked a five day trip to Mexico, and my parents are kindly coming to stay with the kids. I am so excited, and yet it seems unreal. I have only been away from The Guy a couple of times for long weekends, and never away from The Honey yet, so I’m sure I will miss them, but also, not. (Hee.) So, I am off to pack, and face my biggest travel decision: what knitting to bring??? Oh and figure out what kind of needles I can bring on board. Back in a bit, with hopefully some actual progress!
