Tuesday, May 06, 2008 Hmm, where to begin? I have to give up this habit of posting so infrequently that by the time I do have no idea what to write because so much has happened in the meantime.
Okay, first things first. Let’s just rewind a little bit to the weekend before this past weekend. I had the kind offer from etcgirl to join her and another friend in visiting the DKC Knitter’s Frolic in Toronto, which I happily accepted. What a brilliant day. My compatriots were enrolled in a couple of classes each, and I was not (having decided to go on short notice – I would have liked to!) so I also arranged to meet my greatest enabler, companion in yarn hoarding, best friend, Miss Vee and another great enabler another lovely friend, Joanna to do some damage casual browsing.
We spent much of the day ogling and petting (wow that sounds wrong but I assure you it was so not) copious amounts of yarn and related items. We all walked away with some very beautiful things. Here is what came home with me:
My frolic haul: A soft skein of squishy handdyed in brown/caramel/gray from The Sweet Sheep, two awesome handdyed skeins from Dyed In The Wool Handmade (red/blue Fingering Sock and Brown/Bronze Worsted – pillaged from Joanna’s sweater kit), 6 (!!!) skeins of stunning burnt orange Handmaiden Samira (sportweight 100% silk) in Tangerine, 6 skeins of lovely mottled Koigu in browns & grays, a Kromski Niddy Noddy in cherry finish, a spinner’s control card, and two Ilga Leja patterns (Arabella and Tidal Streams)I spent some time chatting with Michelle from The Sweet Sheep, and also got to meet Maggie in person (yay, hi Maggie!). It was so nice to meet up since we have been chatting on ravelry and Flickr. Their two booths were across from each other and were easily my favorite spot at the Frolic.
Afterwards I reconnected with etcgirl and Jen and we went to Lettuce Knit, where a launch party was being held for Big Girl Knits 2. If I was thinking, I would have brought my camera, but I did not. Amy was there, and Jillian Moreno, and other Toronto knitters who I know from the blogiverse but not in real life, and so I was shy and mostly sat there. And tried to knit. But I am a nerd in social settings and have a hard time knitting and paying attention to other things around me, and what did I think would be a nice idea to start working on? Lace. So really I did nothing, except mess up a row and get frustrated and put it away. Meh. BUT. There was a draw, and I won something! A Namaste KnitTube! Yay! It’s a very cool knitting bag that looks like a yoga mat bag. It’s divided into two compartments with openings on each end, so there’s space for two separate projects in there. I was pretty stoked, but also embarrassed, because I’m rather introverted. But yay!
Another big YAY was since I finally got together with Miss Vee she also brought me my Birthmas presents! And how spoiled am I???
Such lovely presents: A microsuede knitting bag with a lime green polka-dotty interior, stuffed with Fleece Artist fiber to spin (Merino, BFL, Merino/Silk, Merino/Alpaca! Whoo!), a magnetic chart keeper, adorable stitch markers from splityarn that say WOOL, and a Yarn Harlot book. Thanks so much Vee!!!So basically it was a giant day full of yays, which I totally needed.
So where have I been? Hmm. Well right after my last post, Mr. woolens and I went to Mexico for four, glorious days, where we lied around, ate entirely too much, and I took advantage of no longer nursing and all-inclusive frozen margaritas on the beach. I put up a few pics of the resort here, on my Flickr set. It was beautiful. I had grandiose plans of knitting a ton, since I’d be uninterrupted by the wee woolens, but I was just so tired and lax, I did very little really. (Which is amusing if you had seen how much knitting I had packed.) I did work on a little hat, from my own handspun yarn, which I haven’t touched since we’ve been home:
So that was our lovely holiday, then three days afterwards, the Little Man had his tonsils out. And then we had four weeks of hellishness and no sleep. It was horrible. I had kept hearing how quickly kids “bounce back” and how we’d be surprised at how he’d breeze on through the recovery, but um, not so much. The poor little guy was up screaming and shaking in pain every couple of hours for a week. Then after that he still woke crying a few times a night for another week and a half. And then still woke moaning a bit after that. It took a long time, and he had a very rough go. And I’m so relieved it is done with and he is feeling much better. So in that time, no knitting/spinning to speak of. Then when I got a bit of sleep again, I managed to do a teeny bit of spinning and put together a couple of skeins for the handspun dream stash prize for ravelraiser:
ravelraiser skeins: (left) Intergalactic ~ thick n’ thin Merino wool, (right) Yalku ~ thick n’ think Corriedale woolThen I was on my own for a week with the wee woolens while the mister was away on business, so tired, so busy… again, no knitting/spinning. So, that’s where I’ve been. Since this is supposed to be my knitting/spinning blogy-blog, it falls quiet when life dictates I don’t get to play. But. Now life has returned to normal, and instead of finishing up current WIPs, I’ve cast on for a cowl. Because it’s great TV watching, late evening, time to unwind knitting:
Yarn: Spritely Goods Sylph in Mourning Dove (Limited Edition), held double
Pattern: Gloria Cowl from orinda5
Needles: 5mm Lantern Moon 16” circularsIt’s soft, and cozy, and I love the yarn. Of course it’s too warm to wear it now, and I have eight million other things I should be finishing up, but hey, a girl needs some relaxation knitting now and again. And next time I will not be away so long. And my plan is to make some serious progress. So let’s see if I can actually make it work!

Hello. There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness. Help me! Please help find sites for: Instant payday loans online. I found only this – 30 day payday loans. The company even works with applicants with less than stellar credit to ensure quick payday loans can bail them out of a tight financial spot. To many low income earners who get salaries that are insufficient to cater for emergencies and contingencies, the quick cash advance loans has been long overdue since they have come at a time when the purchasing power of earnings has being eroded by factors like global recession without a corresponding inflationary adjustments hence pushing many to frequent payday loan entities. Thanks for the help , Tirza from Sao.
