Thursday, June 12, 2008 Look, spinning!
spinny spinnerson ~ I’ve missed my wheel!I’m trying to resist the urge to cast on something new since I need to finish some things up. I’m neglecting knitting in favor of spinning, for which I am neglecting housework. Mr. woolens is away this week and I am using the kids naptimes and evenings to spin (read: maintain sanity). In the meantime things are messy and all of our clothes are clean but in baskets taunting me in my laundry room. But I have yarn, so I still feel productive. Heh.
Lately I have been doing very little knitting and some spinning, but just a little of this and a little of that – so not much to show for it on the knitting front, since I’m only doing a few rows at a time on a few WIPs. Then I pause to do some spinning. Mostly I am procrastinating on the WIPs because they are making me mad. Heh. Take, for example, the cowl. The cowl was supposed to be easy, relaxing knitting. But then my yarncake started to rebel, in the form of massive YARN BARF. So I knit a few rows, fight with the yarn, knit a few rows – repeat. Logically, you’d think at some point the yarn being barfed out of the cake would be the part I am knitting with. But it seems that isn’t going to happen. Little bit frustrating. So the cowl is languishing. I’ve been knitting a little on the cardigan for baby O too but that also has little progress so I won’t bore you with a photo. I will however, show you this:
Some of my handdyed yarns – L to R – Brinca, Mariana & Understory. The top skeins have been reskeined and the bottom have not.A few weekends ago now I went on a day dyeing session at Sheldridge Farm, which is fairly closeby. It was a lot of fun being welcomed into someone’s studio, handed bottles of ready mixed dyes and yarn and told to go play. I think if I had my own studio setup I’d definitely have gotten back to dyeing by now. The setup/cleanup is the hurdle, with the chllins around I’m concerned about safety and need to think of an alternative. I sort of bonded with the turquoise and went from there. I did a lot of custom mixing on the fully blues skeins but the rest I used the colors as they were. I now want to buy about 100 pounds of yarn and bring it home and break out my dyes. Because I obviously need something else fibery to procrastinate on. Hee.
