This year I wanted to do what I did last year and knit a little something for everyone. In theory, it sounded easy, but in practice proved impossible! Between chasing a toddler, fighting off illnesses, coping with morning sickness, working and spinning when I can, I have not had much time to knit at all. Even when I am knitting, it’s only small things & simple patterns because who knows when I’ll have to put it down and when I can come back to it. I still hold out hope that when I start mat leave in February I will still have a teeny weeny smidge of time in which to knit. (I know- delusional. But mat leave in Canada is a year long- and at some point during a year…)

It’s kind of amusing since I have in my stash many beautiful yarns to make many beautiful shawls, a couple of sweaters, many hats & scarves and lots of baby clothes… I figure by 2020 I’ll have many lovely handknit items to show for it. But I love my stash, and so I stash on.

Despite the crunch for time, I have managed to whip up two little handknit Christmas gifts. The first, a hat for baby Owen:

Owen's Hat

Knit with Rowan DK Handknit Cotton, 1 ball each: Ecru and Rosso. From the fabulous book Itty Bitty Hats. This is the second hat of many I shall be knitting from this adorable book. I have a lot of stash yarn dedicated to making some of the cute & quick patterns. Owen has a Dr. Seuss themed-nursery, and this kind of looks like a Christmas in Whoville hat to me… perfect!

The other project I can’t reveal until after Christmas, but is made from this fabulous handspun lash yarn from Homestead Wool and Gift Farm:

Cotswold lash yarn

It’s spun from hand dyed Cotswold locks, and is soft, warm, and dramatic, just what I wanted. Needless to say, as it’s been knitting up it’s become quite a fabulous looking piece. I’ll post a pic of what I’m making (and for whom) after the recipient gets their gift!

I have a bunch of new yarns spun up and waiting to be washed and set, then I will add them to the site, so look for some new skeins to be available over the holidays.

A very happy holiday season to all & joyful 2007!
